The Formal Sector Social Health Insurance Programme is a social health system in which the health care of employees in the Formal Sector is funded by pooling the contributions of employees and employers. The contributions cover the health care of the employee, a spouse and four (4) biological children below the age of 18 years. The programme spreads the health care cost among different income groups and makes the cost affordable.
Federal government MDAs and private organisations (organised private sector) employing ten (10) or more persons can participate in the programme.
